Long Summary[]

Reunion with Kyouya[]

Kyouya greets Nana as the leader of the watchmen. However, for some reason, Kyouya does not seem to know Nana. Nana explains that she helped him at the school three years ago, but Kyouya doesn’t believe her. Kyouya then tells Nana that she will be working as a watchman from now. He tells her to get along with her roommate and leaves.

Shizuka[]

Nana enters the room, thinking that Kyouya might be playing dumb. Nana meets Shizuka, her roommate, who is lying on a bunk bed. They greeted each other. Shizuka asks Nana to follow two rules. The first one is that she has to use to bottom bunk. The second one is that she can't cause any fights because she will also be held responsible. Shizuka also says that it's common for new watchmen to sympathize with the talented and secretly give them food and clothes. Doing this goes against the army’s orders. Nana tells herself that she has never seen Shizuka at school. Nana then decides that she will gather all the talented and escape with them. Nana thinks that she will need to find allies starting tomorrow.

First day as a watchman[]

The next morning, Nana went to the city with Kyouya. Kyouya explained that the first job of a watchman is to patrol the town. Kyouya told Nana to keep an eye out for any signs of unusual behavior or riots among the talented. At that moment, a car with military men in it drives up at a brisk pace, and Kyouya pulls Nana to stand on the side of the road. Kyouya warns her that the soldiers do not seem to brake for talented and that it is dangerous. Nana then asks Kyouya if he is pretending to be obedient. Nana tells her about Jin and him fighting against Tsuruoka three years ago. Kyouya seems confused. Nana is taken aback by his attitude and raises her voice, asking if he doesn't think anything of this situation where people with abilities are unjustly arrested and even killed as a result of the bombing that was fabricated three years ago. Kyouya then hurriedly covers Nana's mouth, looks around, and says that he understands that she feels sorry for everyone. Kyouya says however that it’s true that the talented are a threat to the talentless. Seeing him like this, Nana was puzzled.

Fuuko[]

Fuuko suddenly came to them. Kyouya hides behind Nana and says that she keeps following him around. Fuuko always seems to try to give Kyouya something in a paper bag[1], but Kyouya is wary that it could be a bribe. Fuuko is surprised to see Nana. Since Nana is wearing a watchman’s uniform, she is alarmed and stops moving. Kyouya then tells Nana that that's it for today and runs away. Fuuko looks down in disappointment and leaves with the paper bag in her arms.

Later, Fuuko returns to her own house and sits down with a grim expression on her face. Then, Nana arrived and offered Fuuko food and water. Fuuko, however, blames Nana for betraying them by becoming a watchman like Kyouya. Nana convinces her that she still wants to help so Fuuko accepts Nana's gift. Fuuko then began to talk about what happened three years ago. Since Nana was beaten up and Kyouya and Jin were beaten by Tsuruoka, their lives have changed drastically. In less than a year, laws were implemented that effectively persecuted the talented, and they were arrested by the police and military. They were also subjected to questioning, their properties were confiscated, and they were forced to move to this town with their families.

The food and sanitary conditions in the city were so bad that Fuuko’s father became ill and died last year, and her mother was killed by a soldier. Fuuko says she had hope in Kyouya. Kyouya had told only Fuuko that his memory is limited. The price of his immortality is that his memory is extremely limited, and he can only remember what happened two years ago. However, he was able to live by regularly reading his diary and reminding himself of what has happened in the past. Therefore, if he was to lose the diary, he’d end up losing his memory. However, exceptionally, he can remember how to handle medical equipment and related knowledge.

When Fuuko learned that Kyouya had been taken away, she snuck into Kyouya's room at the school and borrowed several notebooks from his diary. She wanted to give these back to him one day. However, when she met Kyouya again at the management camp, he had already changed. Fuuko seems to be hopeful that Kyouya would be able to come up with a way out of this miserable situation. Nana declares to Fuuko that she will hand the notebooks to Kyouya and will do everything in her power to bring him back his memories and get him to their side.

Nana then begs Fuuko to let her be her leader one more time and to trust her because she needs everyone's cooperation to get out of here. Fuuko then bursts into tears, saying that she had already given up on everything and was thinking of joining Ryuji. A rope for hanging was tied to the ceiling post of Fuuko's house. Fuuko begs Nana to save them.
